If you are looking up App Store screenshot sizes in 2026, two things changed at once. App Store Connect renamed its iPhone screenshot slots, and iPhone Duo arrived with a slot of its own. This guide lists every current size from Apple's specification page, explains which slots are required, and covers what to put in iPhone Duo screenshots so the fold sells your app.
Everything below comes from Apple's App Store Connect Help, Apple Developer News and reports from developers. The AppleDuo team writes from documentation, not from our own uploads, and Apple can change these specifications at any time. Check the screenshot specifications page before you export.
What changed in App Store Connect screenshot slots in 2026?
As Sarun Wongpatcharapakorn pointed out on October 23, 2026, App Store Connect renamed the iPhone screenshot slots. The familiar labels like 6.9″ and 6.5″ are gone. Slots are now named after the kind of display, such as "iPhone with Dynamic Island (large display)" or "iPhone with Face ID (medium display)".
The required slot also moved. It used to be the largest iPhone size. Now Apple's page says you must provide "at least one screenshot for iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display)", the slot that covers iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 17 and similar models. In the old naming, that is the 6.3″ slot, and its newest size is 1206 × 2622 pixels.
A few labels still use inches on the specification page: the two oldest Home Button iPhone slots (4″ and 3.5″) and the iPad slots, such as 13″ display. If your app runs on iPad, you still need at least one screenshot for the 13″ display.
The general rules did not change. You can upload up to 10 screenshots per device size, as .jpeg, .jpg or .png, and images can't include alpha channels or transparency.
What are all the App Store screenshot sizes for iPhone in 2026?
This table lists every iPhone slot on Apple's specification page as of October 28, 2026, in portrait. Landscape sizes are the same numbers swapped.
| Slot name | Example devices | Portrait sizes (pixels) | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone Duo | iPhone Duo | 1398 × 2034 (outer), 2007 × 2853 (inner) | Optional now; required from April 2027 |
| iPhone with Dynamic Island (large display) | iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone Air | 1320 × 2868, 1290 × 2796, 1260 × 2736 | Optional; falls back to Face ID (large) |
| iPhone with Face ID (large display) | iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 11 | 1284 × 2778, 1242 × 2688 | Required only if the Dynamic Island (large) slot is empty |
| iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display) | iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 17 | 1206 × 2622, 1179 × 2556 | Required |
| iPhone with Face ID (medium display) | iPhone 17e, iPhone 13 | 1170 × 2532, 1125 × 2436, 1080 × 2340 | Optional; falls back to Dynamic Island (medium) |
| iPhone with Home Button (large display) | iPhone 8 Plus | 1242 × 2208 | Optional |
| iPhone with Home Button (medium display) | iPhone SE (3rd generation) | 750 × 1334 | Optional |
| iPhone with Home Button (4″ display) | iPhone SE (1st generation) | 640 × 1136, 640 × 1096 | Optional |
| iPhone with Home Button (3.5″ display) | iPhone 4S | 640 × 960, 640 × 920 | Optional |
Apple's display scaling note still applies: if your interface looks the same across sizes and localizations, you only need screenshots for the highest required resolution, and App Store Connect scales them down. In practice, a set at 1206 × 2622 covers the required slot. Read the fallback notes in App Store Connect before you skip the large slots, because the page describes them as falling back to each other.
What are the iPhone Duo App Store screenshot sizes?
The iPhone Duo slot is a single entry on the specification page with two sets of sizes, one for each display.
| iPhone Duo display | Portrait (pixels) | Landscape (pixels) | Approximate aspect ratio |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outer display (closed) | 1398 × 2034 | 2034 × 1398 | 1.45:1 |
| Inner display (open) | 2007 × 2853 | 2853 × 2007 | 1.42:1 |
Apple attaches two notes to this slot. First, when you submit iPhone Duo screenshots, your product page displays a badge that tells people your app is optimized for iPhone Duo. Second, screenshots become required in April 2027. The specification page says that applies to "any app using the iOS 27.1 SDK or later". Apple's October 5 news post puts it more broadly: from April 2027, any apps or games submitted will need iPhone Duo screenshots. Plan for the broader reading.
Apple's page doesn't say whether you must fill both the outer and inner sizes, or what App Store Connect does if one is missing. We couldn't confirm it from Apple's documentation, so check the upload screen in App Store Connect.
These ratios are far from the roughly 19.5:9 shape of other iPhone screenshots. Adapty notes that the inner screenshot size is larger than the inner panel itself (1878 × 2670 pixels), so these are canvas sizes, not raw panel captures. You can't scale a standard iPhone screenshot to fit. Plan an iPhone Duo set as its own design.
How do I capture and size iPhone Duo screenshots?
The iPhone Duo simulator ships with Xcode 27.1 and runs in Device Hub, with controls to open, close, rotate and fold the device. Capture each pose you want to show, then check the pixel size before you upload. The xcrun simctl and sips commands below are standard macOS tools:
# Capture the booted simulator (run once per pose)
xcrun simctl io booted screenshot duo-inner-01.png
# Check the pixel size of the capture
sips -g pixelWidth -g pixelHeight duo-inner-01.png
# Resample to the inner-display portrait size (height first, then width)
sips -z 2853 2007 duo-inner-01.png --out duo-inner-01-asc.png
A raw capture may not match the App Store Connect canvas exactly, because the published sizes differ from the panel resolution. Resample only when the aspect ratio already matches. Otherwise place the capture on a canvas of the right size in your design tool. Apple's Design Resources include iPhone Duo kits, and the asset best practices page links templates.
Before you submit, use the new preview tool in App Store Connect. Apple says it shows how your screenshots, product page headers and other metadata look on iPhone Duo, with Dark Mode and orientation support.
What should the first three iPhone Duo screenshots show?
Apple says up to three screenshots can appear in search results, depending on orientation. Those first three frames do most of the selling, so put the fold there.
- Frame 1: the unfolded experience. Show what the big inner display makes possible, such as a two-column layout, a bigger board or a side-by-side view. This is the frame that earns the badge.
- Frame 2: a pose. Show the device half open if your app does something in that pose, like controls on the lower half and content on the upper half.
- Frame 3: the outer display. Show that the app still works folded, with the vertical bar and a compact layout.
Use real UI. Apple's guidance asks for screenshots that "depict your app or game in use", and Apple's iPhone Duo page suggests showing your app across orientations. Only claim poses your app actually supports. A badge plus a misleading screenshot is a fast route to bad reviews and App Review trouble.
For examples of copy, read how fold games describe the hinge on our Built for the fold page. Greens: Mini-golf explains its tabletop pose in one sentence: you putt on the lower half while the upright half becomes a caddie camera. Marbles Unhinged calls the hinge "a second control". Battlefleet Duo puts your fleet on the lower screen and the enemy's waters on the upright one. Each names the pose and the payoff in plain words, which is what a caption should do.
How do captions, keywords and localization affect screenshot ASO?
Captions are for people. Apple's documentation doesn't say that text inside a screenshot is indexed for search, so keep your search terms in the app name, subtitle and keyword field, and use captions to explain the benefit.
- Lead with the benefit, then the feature. "Two pages at once when you unfold" beats "Supports iPhone Duo". Apple's advice is to use "a short phrase that enhances your visual rather than describes it."
- Match the words people search for. If your keyword field targets "split view notes", use the same phrase in the first caption so the listing confirms the search.
- Keep text inside the safe area. Apple asks you to keep key elements readable across devices and orientations. Avoid placing a caption across the center of an inner-display screenshot, where the fold sits.
- Localize screenshots. Apple asks you to localize assets for every language your app supports, and App Store Connect lets you upload screenshots per localization. Re-check line length in German and French, where captions run longer.
Apple also added product page headers and search result assets on October 5, 2026, plus an Asset Library to stage screenshots ahead of time. If you don't supply search result assets, Apple says your In-App Events, app previews and screenshots appear instead.
Do app previews work on iPhone Duo?
Yes. The app preview specifications page lists iPhone Duo with device resolutions of 2034 × 1398 and 2853 × 2007. The accepted upload resolutions are listed as 886 × 1920 portrait and 1920 × 886 landscape, the same as other modern iPhone slots. That ratio doesn't match the iPhone Duo displays, so confirm the accepted sizes in App Store Connect before you render.
The general rules are unchanged: 15 to 30 seconds, up to 500 MB, H.264 or ProRes 422 (HQ only), and up to three previews per device size and language. Audio is usually muted by default, so the opening seconds need to work without sound. A short open-to-folded sequence in the first few seconds is a natural way to show iPhone Duo support.
Key takeaways
- The required iPhone slot is now iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display), at 1206 × 2622 or 1179 × 2556 pixels. Slot names no longer use inches for modern iPhones.
- iPhone Duo has its own slot: 1398 × 2034 (outer) and 2007 × 2853 (inner) in portrait. Submitting it adds an optimized-for-iPhone-Duo badge.
- iPhone Duo screenshots become required in April 2027. Apple's two pages word the scope differently, so plan as if every submission needs them.
- Put the fold in the first three screenshots: unfolded, a pose, and the outer display.
- Keep keywords in metadata, captions short and benefit-led, and localize both.
Screenshots only sell what the app does. Work through our iPhone Duo preparation checklist first, starting with size classes on iPhone Duo. Then consider making your actions available to Siri with App Intents in iOS 27, so the listing promises more than layout.
Frequently asked questions
What is the required iPhone screenshot size on the App Store in 2026?
Apple requires at least one screenshot for iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display). That slot accepts 1206 × 2622 or 1179 × 2556 pixels in portrait, or the same sizes rotated for landscape.
What size are iPhone Duo App Store screenshots?
The iPhone Duo slot takes 1398 × 2034 pixels for the outer display and 2007 × 2853 pixels for the inner display, in portrait. Landscape versions are 2034 × 1398 and 2853 × 2007.
Are iPhone Duo screenshots required?
Not yet. Apple says iPhone Duo screenshots will be required starting in April 2027. The specification page ties that to apps using the iOS 27.1 SDK or later, while the October 5 news post says any app or game submitted.
What does the iPhone Duo badge on the App Store mean?
When you submit iPhone Duo screenshots in App Store Connect, your product page shows a badge telling people the app is optimized for iPhone Duo. Apple ties the badge to the screenshots, so upload them only when your app really adapts to the device.
Can I reuse my regular iPhone screenshots for iPhone Duo?
Not directly. Regular iPhone screenshots are about 19.5:9, while the iPhone Duo sizes are close to 1.4:1, so a standard screenshot would need to be recomposed rather than resized. Capture new screenshots from the iPhone Duo simulator or a device instead.
